MISSION PROJECT WORKSHOPS

At the request of conferences of bishops or of religious, dioceses, religious congregations or other constituted groups, MPS gives workshops to help participants increase their effectiveness in using AGENCIES FOR DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE to obtain support for pastoral or socio-economic programs or projects.

Workshops of two, three, or four days have been given in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Pacific. The number of participants is generally between 30 and 60. The composition of the groups, usually comprising priests, religious and lay persons, depends on the sponsors.

MPS personnel conduct the workshops without charge for their services, but expect the inviting group or groups to cover their travel expenses as well as room and board, and the costs of obtaining visas and inoculations required for the trip. The hosts must also cover expenses related to the venue of the session, including the room and board accommodations of those in attendance.

Participants may be charged for some of the costs, such as room and board, travel or the acquisition of a copy of AGENCIES… In the past, several of the organizers have been able to obtain partial funding from generous donors, but relatively few agencies cover the costs of such meetings.

Would-be hosts are encouraged to find a co-hosting group in their own country or one of its neighbors, enabling them to share the expenses for the travel of MPS personnel and to reduce the number of long trips to be made by the MPS volunteers. Personnel can conduct workshops in English or French but need simultaneous translation for those given in Spanish. As a rule, Fr. Aubin and Mrs. Hennigan give workshops as a team, while Br. Marcel Sylvestre usually conducts them alone or with a person already in the area. These arrangements are flexible.

For further information, kindly contact Br. Marcel Sylvestre, preferably by e-mail, at the address given on this website.
