GOAL
Mission Project Service (MPS) strives to help Church people and other agents of development in less-industrialized countries obtain assistance from international agencies for their religious and socio-economic projects.
OBJECTIVES
MPS aims to help Church people and other agents of development to: (1) identify their greatest needs, (2) take an inventory of their resources, (3) plan their projects, (4) prepare written presentations and budgets, (5) select agencies most likely to help (6) present clear and accurate reports to the donor agencies. This is done through MPS publications and workshops.
BACKGROUND
In 1974, Father George Cotter of Maryknoll started Mission Project Service. Fr. Pierre Aubin, MSC, joined him in 1977 and became director when Fr. George resumed mission work in 1980 . Mrs. Beverly Hennigan served many years as executive director. Br. Marcel Sylvestre, FIC, joined the staff in 2005 and became director two years later. Fr. Aubin and Mrs. Hennigan remain as advisors and are available for some workshops.
PUBLICATIONS
In 1982, MPS published AGENCIES FOR DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE; Sources of Support for Community-Based Socio- Economic Projects in Less-Industrialized Countries. The seventh edition of this directory in English appeared in November 2007, followed by the Spanish and the French versions in March 2008. It profiles more than 320 agencies located in 26 countries.
The booklet entitled "MPS GUIDE TO PROPOSAL WRITING", remains available in English and in Spanish but most of its contents are now included in the first twenty pages of the book itself.
